For his whole high school career, senior Garrett Clark has been a part of the boys swim team. This year, unlike any other, he went to practice only to find out that out of every boy in Marshfield High School, he was the only one who was interested in the team.
What kept Clark coming back is love for the sport, he likes to see his progress and enjoys continuing to push himself forward. Being on a team that operates alongside the Seymour team, he also enjoys still being able to spend time with them even when there’s no one else from Marshfield.
Being a one man team isn’t the only difference, however. While in the few years prior, Coach Bailee Nunn was the one coaching the team, it is now former Blue Jay Swimmer Coach Joseph Sheffer. Also, due to the lack of teammates, Clark is limited to only doing solo events, instead of group events such as relays offered to most teams.
Feeling alone, Clark hopes that more people will join next year. Once he has graduated, he doesn’t want to see the sport die out at Marshfield.
“You should join swim early because the people that joined when they were upperclassmen say they wished they joined their freshman year,” Clark said.
