Over the summer many songs were released that took over the charts and were everywhere on social media. That includes “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 before reaching number 1 the following week.
“Please Please Please” was released as one of the lead singles of an album, Short n’ Sweet, which was released on August 23.
I feel like a lot of the album was like a swing and a miss to me. There’s a couple songs that I really enjoyed, but a few weren’t the best. I’ve decided to give my review on a couple of these songs and a rating out of 5 stars.
Starting with my least favorite song, “Dumb & Poetic” I generally prefer faster, almost hyperpop songs which is pretty much the opposite of what this song is. Overall it’s just not really my thing but I still enjoy the song and listen to it on occasion. “Dumb & Poetic” gets 2 stars from me.
The album closer, “Don’t Smile” is one that I think could be really good but has something missing to it. It has the same kind of vibes instrumentally as my favorite song on the album, but lyric wise it just doesn’t stand out too much to me. I do enjoy this song though so I think it deserves 3 stars.
My overall favorite song on the album, “Bed Chem” is next. Everything about the song just really hits it off with me. My favorite song on albums tends to shift around over time, but I think I can see this one being my favorite for a long time. For a star rating I would give it 4.5 stars.
Lastly, I’ll talk about “Espresso” and while I think the song is good it’s super overplayed. For months after it was released I couldn’t go two seconds on Instagram without hearing “I’m working late ‘cause I’m a singer” so I’m pretty over it. I did really enjoy the song when it first came out so I give it 3.5 stars.
