Since 2024, when Olivia Rodrigo released “Guts (spilled)”, there has been no new music or teasers from the singer, who was more focused on touring.
During a show hosted by American Express 3 months after the Guts tour ended, Rodrigo stated “It’s nice to be home from touring, to really get to sink my teeth into new songs and new sounds and new stories.”
The statement of working on new music came to fruition when, on March 13, fans spotted a purple mural in LA with Rodrigo’s signature “OR” in a different font from her usual branding. Each day since the mural was first painted it slowly got lighter, ending up as being pink in color with the word “love” written on it by March 20.
Many fans were speculating about an announcement, or even a single, coming out April 3, after a purple lock was found with the word April on it, and a message that was posted on her website after the Guts tour ended, while it was initially teasing the “Guts World Tour Book” the teaser message had the numbers 4 and 3 encrypted within the sentence.
Calling her hotline number also brings a message stating to “Expect true clarity and renewal just after the pink moon” with the pink moon being on April 1, which helped solidify the April 3 theory.
Come April 1, her official accounts were completely wiped, with her archiving all previous posts.
The next day, Rodrigo posted on all of her social media accounts announcing her next album, previously dubbed “OR3” by fans, called “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” and will be coming out June 12.
On April 6 a series of four videos were posted, showing her placing locks on bridges in major cities. With all four locks coming together to say “Drop Dead April 17” teasing the upcoming album’s lead single. With Rodrigo officially confirming the single the next day on her social media.
In an interview with British Vogue for their April issue, Rodrigo stated her upcoming album contains mostly sad love songs, saying “I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”
