Wrapping It Up

The Marshfield band wrapped up their year with the band banquet on May 4. They passed awards out to both bands for getting high ratings at the MHSAA clinic and gave awards to those who medaled at the State MSHAA Solo and Ensemble. The band directors also presented special awards to seniors Cayley Dooly getting the John Phillip Sousa Award, Zane Wood earning the Louis Armstrong Award and Abbi Loftis getting the National Marching Award. These awards are only given to one person every year and it goes to the person who the band directors feel fits the most.

After giving a shout-out to all the seniors in the band, they wrapped it up by announcing what the new show will be next year. The 2023-2024 show is titled “New Frontier” featuring arrangements of “Ecstasy of Gold” from “The Good, The Band, and the Dirty”; “L’ultima Diligenza Di Red Rocks” from “The Hateful Eight” both composed by Ennio Morricone; “The Ludlows” from “Legends of the Fall’ composed by James Horner; and “Southern Harmony composed by Donald Grantham. The band directors are excited to perform this show live and have even leaked part of the show’s music to the band students.

“I think that it’s a great idea. It’s interesting and has tons of potential. It kind of mirrors how we are reaching a new ‘phase’ in our marching band. I’m really looking forward to it and seeing how we can execute,” said freshman Katie “Kai” Vo.
