The Blue and White wrestling meet took place in the Jr. High gym on Friday, Nov. 10. This event introduces the wrestling team, shows the freshman how a wrestling match works and who will be on the Varsity team for this year.

Throughout the week of Nov. 6, the varsity team from last year can be challenged by other wrestlers in their weight class. The best of the challengers will wrestle for the Varsity spot during the Blue and White.

The Varsity team for this year consists of freshman, Rozalyn Richerson for the 106 lb. weight class, junior Raymond Moore for the 113 lb. weight class, senior Nicholas Hill for the 120 lb. weight class, sophomore Ruger Leppert for the 126 lb. weight class, senior Nick Taylor for the 132 lb. weight class, sophomore Will Snider for the 138 lb. weight class, sophomore Isaiah Ragsdale and senior Zach Kurre for the 145 lb. weight class, junior Wyatt Wilsey for the 152 lb. weight class, senior Klayton Brooks for the 160 lb. weight class, junior Jordon Irwin for the 170 lb. weight class, junior Clay Wilson for the 182 lb. weight class, senior Deryl VanNostrand for the 195 lb. weight class, junior Travin Plemmons for the 220 lb. weight class and senior Tristen Burton for the heavy weight class.

The night was filled with cheers from the crowd as well as the team shouted out suggested moves for their teammates to win. Richerson, the only girl on the team, wrestled Jordan Chrisman and came out on top, winning herself a Varsity spot.

“I thought the night went exactly how I expected,” said Matt Holt. “The kids we expected to be Varsity this year are very good and they are battle tested. They went out Friday night and took care of business.”

This year the wrestling team has 11 out of 14 returning starters meaning the best in their weight class and 11 ranked wrestlers. Coach Holt expects to take several guys to State this year.

“This season could be special. I expect to win and win a lot this year,” said Coach Holt.
