On April 25, indie pop band Beach Bunny released their latest album “Tunnel Vision” after three years of no new releases. The band rose to fame in 2018 with their release, “Prom Queen” which has reached over 700 million listens on Spotify. While their other songs haven’t reached that status, it didn’t stop them from releasing another EP and 3 albums. The album mainly focuses on the lead singer and songwriter, Lili Trifilio’s, feelings on both her own life and the state of the world itself. Both of which have been recurring themes in past songs, alongside the slight romance element in many of the band’s older music.
After listening to all the songs, my personal favorite has been “Chasm.” While “Tunnel Vision,” one of the songs released as singles leading up to the album, was my favorite coming in to the album, I think “Chasm” definitely takes the top. The instrumentals fit the kind of music that I’ve recently gotten into, and while I don’t really relate to the lyrics, which cover Trifilio’s feelings on different versions of herself, I still enjoyed the song a lot.
My least favorite is definitely “Just Around the Corner.” The lyrics are okay, and I understand the intentions of critiquing both America and the government, but it’s just not really for me. It could be a combination of the instrumental and the lyrics, but this song was definitely a let down after enjoying all of the other songs on the album.
