School’s back in session meaning after school clubs are starting. Writer’s Guild and Photography Society started off the first meetings of clubs on Tuesday, August 29.

Writer’s Guild is a club for students interested in reading and writing and want to improve on their skills. Hannah Scarborough, senior, is this year’s president. Their first meeting consisted of free writing what they wanted to do this year. They meet every first and fourth Tuesday in Mrs. Katie Ragsdale’s room 402.

Scarborough says, “We are a creative writing club that helps people become exceptional writers.”

Photography Society is a club dedicated to students who are interested in learning the elements of photography. They meet in Mrs. Glenn’s room, room 108.

Harry Potter Club, SODA Club and Star Wars Club met Wednesday, August 30. The president of Harry Potter Club is senior Peyton Sammons. In Harry Potter Club, students make up games with details from the Harry Potter series. A few of the meetings will be dedicated to watching the Harry Potter movies and food parties.

Sammons says, “I see potential in everyone. I really do care about you and I really like everyone here.”

SODA Club’s President is senior Austin Routt and Vice President is senior Cole Bullock. In SODA Club, students talk to elementary students about the cons of doing drugs and just saying no. They meet every other Wednesday in Mrs. Kim Plemmons room 110.

Routt says, “I have been in this club for four years now and I’m very dedicated to this cause.”

Star Wars Club is sponsored by Mrs. Kelly Hugenot this year. Senior Justin Murphy was named President of the Star Wars Club at their first meeting. Students interested in anything Star Wars see Mrs. Hugenot or Justin Murphy for details on the meetings.

The last club to meet that week was National Art Honor Society in Mrs. Tina Hyde’s room 202 on Thursday, August 31. NAHS is for students interested in art and learning to better their talents. This club is responsible for painting the sets for the fall and spring plays. Each member has to have a certain number of hours logged for painting or they will not be allowed to attend any field trips to art museums.

Nothing to do at the end of school? Want to be more involved? Join a club that interests you. Be sure to watch for information on the other clubs posted around the school.
