Tim Burton is an American director, producer, writer and artist best known for his gothic and dark fantasy horror films. Making numerous iconic films such as “Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Beetlejuice,” “Corpse Bride,” “Alice in Wonderland” and more. Coming up with an adjective for his style called “burtonesque” characterized by its dark, whimsical and gothic aesthetic.
“The style often features crooked, angular environments, and characters with exaggerated, deformed, or disheveled features, drawing heavily from German Expressionism and Gothic art traditions. It creates a sense of strangeness and melancholy, sometimes with high contrast between dark shadows and vibrant colors,” according to Timburton.com
He became interested in filmmaking and drawing while he was still young, he then attended the California Institute of Arts where he studied character animation. Later he worked as an animator at Disney Productions. He directed his first feature film in 1985, in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, making numerous films since then. On September 3, he was honored with the 2,788 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame receiving his star in the category of Motion Pictures.

He sets up exhibitions around the world like The World of Tim Burton where it’s currently set up in London but has past been in China, Italy, Belgium and so many more. Where he has large-scale retrospectives that showcase the artist’s work across film, drawing, painting, and sculpture, featuring a vast collection of personal and studio archives

It invites you into his world through an exploration of the design of his unique aesthetic. The displays show his production as an illustrator, painter, photographer and author, as well as exploring key collaborations with designers.
