Marshfield High School has had changes in policies and programs throughout the years, but this school year has some prominent changes. There are the obvious changes such as the no cell phone policy, then there are others that can sometimes fly under the radar, like the Kindness Wall.
The cell phone policy has been updated from the past, where teachers could set their own policies room to room, to now where there is a school-wide ban. Students are supposed to put their phones in the pockets provided by the school and are only allowed on it during passing time and lunch time.
The Kindness Wall is a website monitored by the school that gives the students an opportunity to give shout outs to other students and teachers. The TVs throughout the school building show slides of every shout out written on the website. It is meant to spread kindness, hence the given name of the Kindness Wall.
Principal Nicki Thompson is hoping to see a much more active student body and create an environment where students and teachers alike are encouraged to strive to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
With this being her first year as a principal, Thompson is pleased with how this school year is going. She has been a part of this district for two decades now in various positions, so she knows how the school has run in the past, and seeing the changes being made is only making it better, in her opinion.
“I felt pretty prepared to take on this position, and as the school year continues, I am certain that this is where I want to be.”
