Homecoming Weekend

One of the biggest, student favorite events, homecoming, has come and gone once again this school year. Full of good memories, new experiences and some final experiences for the seniors. The homecoming activities started on Thursday, Sept. 19 with the annual homecoming parade. The parade included floats that represented all different kinds of sports going on throughout the school including, football, softball, golf, etc. The parade went on throughout the town and ended with everyone meeting at the football field.

Grace Clark, sophomore member of the girls golf team, said, “It’s a good way to get ready for a big weekend and it really brings the homecoming spirit.”

The next homecoming event on the agenda was the homecoming assembly held towards the end of the school day on Friday, Sept. 20. The assembly introduced some of the fall sports along with the class nominees for homecoming king and queen. The assembly also included games that drew many laughs from the students.

Later that night, the football game against Springfield Catholic which saw the home team, Marshfield Bluejays come out with the 28-38 loss in front of the home crowd.

Senior football player, Thomas Mcillwain, said, “I felt like my performance was good but we all could have done things better.”

The loss for the varsity Blue Jays brings their win-loss record to 1-3 on the season. The next game for the Jays will be on the road next Friday night against Hollister.

Finally, the event everyone had been preparing and waiting for, and what most people consider the best part of the entire weekend, the homecoming dance. The dance was held on Saturday, Sept. 21. The doors at the Marshfield High School opened at 7:00 pm for the dance and concluded at 10:00 pm. The dance was held in the Auxiliary gym with a DJ to provide music for all students throughout the night.

Senior homecoming attendant Abbi Delfante had mixed feelings on her last time going to homecoming, “It’s sad that this will be the last time going to this dance and I’m going to miss moments like these, but I’ll always remember them and I’m looking forward to the future.”
