On Thursday, Feb. 14, Maggie Groenke traveled to St. Peters for girls swim state. Groenke was seeded 20th out of 32 participants in the 100 Breaststroke, she finished placing 18th overall

Groenke has been swimming since the fourth grade and is now a sophomore in high school. “I want to go to college for swim,” said Groenke. She has been taking swimming more seriously and has qualified for state last year as well, making her one of the best swimmers in the state. Her favorite meet this year was Cape Girardeau. Groenke said, “We took a charter bus and stayed in a hotel. They have a really nice pool. Also most everyone drops time there.”

She lists after school meets as her least favorite meets, because they’re harder to prepare for. Swim season isn’t all seriousness, they make sure to keep it fun. Groenke says, “One time we cut a teammates hair just for fun.”

And with that, the 2018-2019 swim season came to an end.
