There was a speech and debate tournament on Friday, Feb 1 and Saturday, Feb 2. In all, there was a total of 27 Marshfield students that went to the tournament. The team left at noon on Friday and got back late Friday night. They then left again on Saturday, at 6:30am.

They all performed in categories of the teacher’s choice. There are 17 different different categories in the tournament. There is policy debate, lincoln douglas debate, public forum debate, united states, extemporaneous speaking, international, extemporaneous speaking, student congress, original oratory, informative speaking, storytelling, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, radio, duo interpretation and finally, program or oral interpretation.

Sophomore Susanna Combs said, “I’m performing in dramatic interpretation and storytelling, I’m super excited and I hope I place good!”

There were a lot of people who placed at this tournament. Tatum Manary got first in storytelling, Ashlynn Harrod got third in storytelling and Hudson Aikins got sixth in storytelling. Elijah Wolfard and Tatum Manary got first in Duo Interpretation. Chris Housholder and Logan Dodson got second in novice policy debate. Hudson Aikins got third in humorous interpretation. Elijah Wolfard got fourth in dramatic interpretation. Finally, Chandler Zimmerman got fifth in United States extemporaneous speaking.

Senior Tatum Manary said, “The Bolivar tournament has always been a very enjoyable experience. We had a lot of success this last weekend. This was the fist tournament that I ever received first place, which was so great.
