Senior night against Aurora

The MHS football team had their final home game of the regular season against the Aurora Hound Dogs. The Jays were 5 – 2 looking to go 6 – 2 after the game Friday night. Fortunately, the Jays outfought the Hound Dogs and got the win to make the Jays 6 – 2. They now get home field advantage for districts that takes place on Fri., Oct. 26.

The final score in the Aurora vs. Marshfield game was 41 – 18 and junior Brennan espy contributed with three touchdowns. Sophomore Daylon “Little Canon” Kanengieter contributed with one touchdown. Senior quarterback Brock Utecht contributed with one touchdown.

On the defensive side, senior Joseph Hoyt contributed by intercepting the football and running it for a touchdown. Adding to the number of interceptions caught by the MHS defense, senior Wyatt Wilsey got his first two interceptions of the year against Aurora. Senior Garrison “Bucky” Foster got his first interception of his high school career in that game.

The Seniors that were recognized Friday night were Number 1 Will Smith, number 6 Joseph Hoyt, number 9 Jarrett Meyer, number 10 Braxton Hall, number 11 Austin Porter, number 12 Brock Utecht, number 13 Collin Hurley, number 20 Truett Gardner, number 21 Wyatt Wilsey, number 24 Garrison “Bucky” Foster, number 28 Teagan Boles, number 41 Trenton “The Canon” Kanengieter, number 42 Clay Wilson, number 52 Brandon Pogue, number 56 Keagan O’Dell, number 62 Jace Pulley, number 69 Darrell Bradshaw, and number 77 Travin Plemmons.

Junior Brennan Espy was a player that stood out Friday night. He had a kick return for a touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. Espy stated “I need four more touchdowns to beat the record for most touchdowns in a season.” Espy is definitely working really hard to get that record as the Jays take on the Rogersville Wildcats on Oct. 19, who are 0 – 8 this season.
