No “Yay’s” for the Jays

Cole Hartman, defending for the Jays against a New Covenant player

Ethan Ragsdel, Writer

Marshfield soccer played against New Covenant Academy and it was a good and close game for most of the night. Jarrett Meyer got things started, as he scored a goal fairly early the first of two halves for the night, giving the Jays a 1-0 lead at the half. Coach Thomas Searson said, “We had a sound game plan and were getting chances in the 1st half.” New Covenant came out strong in the second half and earned a penalty kick. The opposing team came back and tied the game at 1-1. After a few minutes of play New Covenant went up 3-1 in the second half. Meyer got the Jays within one goal short of tying the game. That goal by Meyer is significant as he became the career goal scoring leader at MHS. New Covenant never let up though and went on to win the game 3-2. When asked how the season is going Searson said, “Our season has been going well. We just need to improve on defending the lead and staying focused with our game plan and build on what we are good at.”
