The First Contest

For the first time ever over 1,000 students from 52 different schools came to Marshfield High School on March 17 to compete in 22 different career development events and leadership events.

Justin Cron, Ag teacher, said, “It took many man hours to prepare for this contest”.

These events included Ag Management, Ag Mechanics, Ag Sales, Agronomy, Creed Speaking, Dairy Cattle Judging, Dairy Foods, Entomology, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, FFA Knowledge, Floriculture, Food Science, Forestry, Horse Evaluation, Job Interview, Livestock Evaluation, Meats, Nursery/Landscaping, Poultry, Public Speaking, Soils and Sophomore Public Speaking.

“We had about 70 FFA Alumni members help during the day of the contest to help manage each content area,” said Cron.

Marshfield competed and placed in many events listed below.

Ag Mechanics third place.

    – Junior Cole Marlin and sophomore Cole Hartman Placing in the top 10 individually out of 40 competitors.

Agronomy first place.

    – Seniors Sarah Smalley placed first, Wyatt Greer placed second and Nikki Briddle placed fourth individually out of 40 competitors.

Dairy Cattle placed fourth overall.

    – Junior Kevin Throne placed third and freshman Wyatt Dill placed eighth out of 75 students

Entomology placed first.

    – Sophomore Lindsey Deckard placed first, senior Bridget Holmes placed fourth and sophomore Caitlyn Power placed seventh individually out of 45 students.

Floriculture placed second.

    – Juniors Courtney Duncan placed first, Kyla Whittaker placed fourth, Hannah Mashburn placed 10th and Haylee Long 11th out of 45 competitors.

Forestry placed second.

    – Senior Jason Petty and junior Wyatt Young placed in the top 10 individually out of 55 students.

Poultry placed third.

    – Junior Kaylee Brinkley and freshman Brayden Green placed in the top 10 out of 60 students.

Soils Placed seventh overall.

Livestock Placed 10th overall.

Horses placed nineth overall.

FFA Knowledge placed seventh overall.
