Word in the Hallway
December 1, 2017
The latest talk in the hallway at Marshfield High School has been the posters put all around the school. The poster reads “ Keep Calm and Join Pride Club”. The posters were put up on Nov. 30, 2017 and have been ripped down throughout the day. This has caused some controversy for students.
There have been students who say that they are against the club saying, “I am not against people being attracted to the same gender. Considering that there are already movements all over the U.S. and the topic of Pride is not as big of an issue as it used to be. So why do we need this club?”
However there are students* who support the club and there are students who are not for it or against. One of the students who is not for it or against, “I am not for it or against it. I think simply everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that includes sexuality.” They also says that the club could cause “too much conflict” between people.
A student who is for the club says, “It’s a safe place that kids who are attracted to the same gender can go too.” This student is in full support of the club and thinks the kids who are criticizing the club should stop because, “the club doesn’t affect you, so leave it alone. The club was made so people don’t feel alone.”
Another student, who also is in full support of the club, shared their thoughts, “I feel like a safe place for the LGBTQ at this school is not only needed but should be encouraged.”
The Club has been the recent talk of the school. There hasn’t been any additional information but the Jay Chatter will keep you updated on the club and any other information on it as well.
